Surprising: Schumacher and Benetton
Just like at every new season, the developments during winter change the relative strengths of the teams. This year's surprise is clearly Schumacher on Benetton which both make major steps ahead and are able to score an excellent second place in qualifying.

In the race, Schumacher is not only able to keep up with 3-times world champion Ayrton Senna on the car that will win the constructors championship that year, but also to driver consistently faster and to dominate the race.

Also Eddie Irvine causes a collision which gets him banned for 3 races.
